Merchandise Monday #41

It’s survival of the fittest out there – especially on a Monday (Monday is a Predatory day set to kill us), when the slightest salvation seems to be days away. Never fear; Dutch is here:

I wish Arnie would return for a future Predator sequel. They could assign him to a new team (obviously) – who find themselves in danger –  and call on him as he is the only person to have experienced and lived through a Predator  encounter (prior to other sequels):

Or, maybe all the survivors of Predator attacks up until this point can be teamed together for the final face-off, this will be the real Hunger Games:

Although Arnold did a good job of saving himself in Predator; he wasn’t as successful in saving his team-mates. Would you trust Arnie/Dutch to keep you alive during a Predator attack? I guess I trust him more than I trust myself…

Fan Art Friday #24

Welcome to the Jungle! Probably not the jungle you want to get lost in when there are a bunch of predators hunting you down:

Predators - Welcome to the Jungle

Predators – Welcome to the Jungle

I started this drawing out with normal pen, and then went darker with fine liners. I decided to not stay with my traditional black and white. Hope you like the pop of colour:

I was trying to achieve a landscape effect of Monet meets graphic novel in a very minimalist way:

I used chalk pastels to shade the rest of the landscape:

It was a bit of a messy project, but i had a lot of fun working outside of my normal ‘tight’ style and medium:

Pen vs Pencil

As nerds; we love comic books; and therefore we love illustrations. In this day and age most comic illustrations are done digitally, but for those of us who aren’t pro’s – we still revert back to the piece of paper to house our ideas.

My friends and i love drawing and storytelling; but there is the dilemma of pen vs pencil when it comes to our artwork. Pencil is obviously better for error correction; and you get better tones when shading. However; people ALWAYS feel the need to prod at artwork when you show it to them; as if looking at it is not enough. This need for touching leads to smudging on the artwork; even if you do use those spray resins to avoid this.

So that is what forced me to draw in pen. If you make one mistake you have to start over; and shading in ink is terribly difficult. But in the end i have come to prefer pen; and its boldness. Here is some examples of my pen artwork:
